TRiO Upward Bound

The Upward Bound Program is a college prep program specifically designed for first-generation and/or low-income students. This year-round program is free to all participants and is funded by the U.S. Department of Education.

The TRiO Upward Bound Program (UB) enhances students’ academic skills and motivates them to successfully transition from high school to college to pursue a post-secondary education. 

The UB program operates year round and provides multiple services via three academic components at the Fort McIntosh Campus.  

 

Summer 

Component runs for six-weeks Monday thru Thursday. Along with intensive academic instruction, the program offers educational/cultural field trips as well as recreational activities. Tutoring offered on Fridays.

 

Fall/ Spring

Component consists of ten Saturday meetings, after school tutoring, cultural field trips, and academic, social events, career awareness activities, and personal/group counseling. With their LC ID Card Upward Bound students may use the LC Library, Learning/Tutoring Center, and other facilities on both campuses.

 

Bridge 

Component is designed for graduating seniors. The Upward Bound Program offers a scholarship for up to 2 courses for summer session I at Laredo College immediately after high school graduation. Participating Bridge students may earn a stipend based on attendance.
